This list of Prisoner of War Camps, Italian Service Unit Camps, and Prisoner of War Hospitals is based on weekly reports located on NARA microfilm #66-538 (population lists June 1942-June 1946). Additional locations based on newspapers, interviews, and other NARA records (at College Park and Regional Archives).
The POW Camps in Missouri during World War II included:
•Clark (Camp), Nevada, Vernon County, MO (base camp)
•Crowder (Camp Enoch), Neosho, Newton County, MO(base camp)
•Weingarten (Camp), Sainte Genevieve County, MO (base camp)
•Wood (Fort Leonard), Pulaski County, Missouri (base camp)
Enemy alien internment camp:
•Clark (Camp), Nevada, Vernon County, MO (Italian)
•Kansas City INS Detention Facility, MO (German, Italian)
•St. Louis INS Detention Facility, MO (German, Italian)
•Wood (Fort Leonard), Pulaski County, MO (Italian)
Cemeteries:
•Fort Leonard Wood Post Cemetery, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, active military installation.
•Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks, MO
•Camp Weingarten, MO (5 Italian burials transferred to Jefferson Barracks Nat'l Cem. in MO on 10 October 1945)
