This list of Prisoner of War Camps, Italian Service Unit Camps, and Prisoner of War Hospitals is based on weekly reports located on NARA microfilm #66-538 (population lists June 1942-June 1946). Additional locations based on newspapers, interviews, and other NARA records (at College Park and Regional Archives).
The POW Camps in New Jersey during World War II included:
•Belle Mead, Somerset County, NJ (base camp)
•Dix (Fort John Adams), Burlington County, NJ (base camp)
•Jersey City Quartermaster Supply Depot, Hudson County, NJ (base camp) (see Somerville, NJ)
•Kilmer (Camp Joyce), New Brunswick, Middlesex County, NJ (base camp)
•Monmouth (Fort), Monmouth County, NJ (base camp)
•Raritan Arsenal, Metuchen, Middlesex County, NJ (base camp)
•Somerville Quartermaster Supply Depot, Somerset County, NJ (base camp) (see Jersey City, NJ)
Enemy alien internment camp:
•Gloucester City INS Detention Facility, NJ (German, Italians)
Cemeteries:
•Finn’s Point National Cemetery, Finn’s Point, Salem County, NJ
